via Idle No More – Gulf Coast via Emine Dilek: “Attention Floridians! This is a photo of the Jupiter Inlet since the Lake Okeechobee release. Because the state does not have money to repair the dike around the lake, the Army Corps of Engineers decided to release the polluted, silt-laden fresh water from Lake Okeechobee into the ocean. The lake water is polluted by the industrial waste from sugar companies and phosphate plants around the lake, which finds it way into the lake.
The corps says the discharges are necessary to move huge volumes of water quickly to prevent a failure of the 110-mile Herbert Hoover Dike around the 730-square-mile lake during the wet season.
Thank you Rick Scott! You can afford to give millions of dollars tax breaks to your corporate buddies, meanwhile do not have the money to repair the dikes around the lake, so release the toxic water into the beautiful ocean!
As a Floridian, this breaks my heart into thousand pieces. I love the town of Jupiter. My son went to school there from kindergarten until the end of Middle School, last year. I lived there for a few years and still live very close by… I am so sad about this…”
